We are looking forward, not at back: Malinga

Sydney, Feb 2(ANI): Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has said his team is looking forward and not dwelling on past glories.

Sri Lanka won their maiden one-day series 2-1 in Australia 15 months ago.

Malinga played a key role in guiding Sri Lanka to their first ever series win in Australia last year after he scored a career best score of 56 in the final match of the series.

His 132-run partnership with Angelo Mathews, after they came together at 8-107 pursuing a target of 240, was a world-record ninth-wicket stand and took the visitors to within a run of victory which was then finished off by a Muthiah Muralidaran boundary.

However, he is giving less value to his team's series victory in Australia last year and believes that the Lankans are looking forward.

""The past is the past - all we are concerned about is future matches ... we can't carry that [past] performance into the future," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Malinga, as saying.

Malinga who will be the fastest bowler in the triangular one-day series in Australia also downplayed the importance of bowling fast in the limited-over format.

"Now, the one-day game has become more difficult. Sometimes pace can help but the game has changed. Now you need variation and other things to unsettle the batsmen," he said. (ANI)
