London, Jan 31 (ANI): Gary Glitter, who is a convicted child molester, could pocket thousands of pounds when his 1972 hit 'Rock and Roll Part II' is played at the Super Bowl final next month.
Rock and Roll Part II, known as the 'Hey Song', has been adopted as a theme tune by the New England Patriots, who will face the New York Giants in the final on February 5, the Daily Mail reported.
The National Football League (NFL) has banned the original version of the song, but the cover version by Tube Tops 2000 will be played when the Patriots score a touchdown - implying that Glitter- whose real name is Paul Gadd- is still entitled to royalties.
British television channels and radio stations banned Glitter's music, since he was jailed in 2006 for molesting two girls in Vietnam.
However, the BBC has apparently paid 600,000 pounds for broadcast rights of Superbowl.
Rock and Roll Part II is considered as an anthem by several American football clubs, including the Indianapolis Colts, who will host the Superbowl final at their Lucas Oil Stadium.
The BBC asserted it was not required to pay royalty fees to third parties for music played by the NFL. (ANI)
