Haldwani/Barabanki, Jan 27 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed that the Congress Party will face humiliating defeat in the upcoming Uttarakhand assembly polls for pursuing corrupt policies.
BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said the Congress would be routed for pursuing corrupt policies. He also hit out at the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)
"The Congress Party, which is enmeshed in corruption would be disappointed. Last time, the Bahujan Samaj Party managed to win some seats but when elephant (BSP election symbol) is floundering in UP (Uttar Pradesh) then it has no chance in the mountainous terrain," he told reporters here on Thursday.
Elections in Uttarakhand will be held on January 30.
The state's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government has been marred by several corruption charges that have led to the removal of Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank as chief minister. He was replaced by B C Khanduri.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav lashed out at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP chief Mayawati, saying the elephant has become weak.
Addressing a public rally at Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, Yadav said: "The elephant (Bahujan Samajwadi Party's symbol) has become weak. The wooden planks have been raised around the dictator Chief Minister (Mayawati). Even the top has been covered. The dictator has been locked up in a box."
Elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases from February 8 to March 3.
The assembly polls in five states are being seen as an opportunity for major political parties to re-establish or strengthen their foothold ahead of the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
