New Delhi, Jan 27 (ANI): RTI crusader Arvind Kejriwal has said Team Anna will not target any political party or influence its victory or loss.
Kejriwal said civil society activists only wanted to raise awareness among voters to choose the righteous candidate, one who supports the anti graft Lokpal Bill.
"We are not fighting for any political outfit's victory or loss. We went before the people to tell them that during polls, political parties will be raising the agenda of caste and religion to garner votes," Kejriwal told mediapersons on the sidelines of a seminar here.
"We want that (political) outfits should clear their stand on the Lokpal Bill as urged in the letters written by Annaji, and casting of votes should be done on that basis," he added.
Supreme Court lawyer and Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the need to empower the public and remove the concentration of power from the hands of politicians and bureaucrats.
"There is a need to reduce the practice of election based politics and power of the elected representatives of people, and transfer this power in the hands of the public so that votes are given for policies and law rather than a particular person," said Bhushan.
"The public should choose a policy and a law before accessing their franchise over the casting of their votes for a person who comes and governs them for the next five years," he added.
Team Anna has been holding several public meetings in different poll-bound states of the country.
Anna Hazare, who called off his three-day token fast for a strong Lokpal Bill in Mumbai last month, had threatened the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government that he would campaign against the latter in the five poll-bound states for not bringing a strong and an effective anti-graft bill.
The Election Commission has declared that voting in the five states, including the most populous Uttar Pradesh, would be held between January 28 and March 3. (ANI)
