Melbourne, Jan 24(ANI): Belgian tennis ace Kim Clijsters defeated Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 7-6 to set up a semi final clash with Belarusian Victoria Azarenka in the Australian Open.
Azarenka edged past Pole Agnieszka Radwanska 6-7 (0-7) 6-0 6-2 in the quarter- finals.
Clijsters admitted that her ankle injury had affected her preparation for the match but added that she has refused medical updates lest it becomes a hurdle in defending her Australian Open title.
"I already had a scan on my neck a couple days ago. I said, no more. Whatever it is, it is.
I'm going to try to make the best out of it. Then we'll see when I get home how I'm feeling. I have seen more hospitals these last six months than anything, so no more for me," The Age quoted Clijsters, as saying.
Meanwhile, Azarenka, who made a comeback into the second set to win 6-0 after losing the opening set tiebreaker 0-7 in the quarter-finals, attributed her win to a change in her mentality.
"I think I am a different player right now, especially mentally-wise. Maybe two years ago, I would be like, okay, it's not working today. I'm going to try, but we'll see how it goes," Azarenka said
"Today, I really tried to forget about the first set and start from zero and really fight hard, really take it one at a time and keep going," she added. (ANI)
