Malaysian PM stresses need for strategy to promote Tamil education

Kuala Lumpur, Mon, 23 Jan 2012 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 23(ANI): Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak has stressed the need for a blueprint to promote Tamil education in the country.

"This includes whether remove classes are still relevant for Tamil schools, space constraint and other needs," The Star quoted Razak, as saying.

"The findings of the seminar and the suggestions raised can then be considered by the Education ministry and the Government," he added.

He said that the Malaysian Cabinet had earlier given a green signal to set up Tamil schools at Taman Keladi (in Sungai Petani), Heawood Estate (Sungai Siput), Taman Sentosa (Klang), Taman PJS1 (Petaling Jaya), Bandar Mahkota (Cheras) and Bandar Sri Alam (Masai, Johor).

He also said that the Malaysian Government is considering relocating 15 Tamil schools having less than 10 children on the rolls to more populated areas.

"What is important is there is cooperation from (Tamil school) teachers, the PTAs and the Indian community. There will have to be an integrated and concerted effort from all to realise the objective (of advancing Tamil schools)," he added. (ANI)
