Assamese happy over insurgent outfits initiating peace talks with government

Guwahati, Jan 23 (ANI): For every Assamese, this years Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu is special as it has brought along hope and happiness to the region with members of insurgent outfits either surrendering or initiating peace talks with the government.

Bihu, the soul of Assam, is more than just a festival and merriment. It is intrinsically linked with the culture and ethos of Assam.

This year, people are happy as their prayers have been answered and the state is moving towards peace and harmony.

"I hope that there is peace in Assam and people should be remain happy and lead a peaceful life," said Saurav Bora, a villager.

"I want to give the message that everyone should be together and united and there should be no violence," added Prabhat Hazarika, another villager

During the festival of Bhogali Bihu, farmers constructed Meji houses; the makeshift temples devoted to the harvest gods that were burnt at the break of dawn.

They offered prayers for a better harvest next year. Farmers organized feast at their homes and invite their friends and fellow villagers.

Women prepared traditional delicacies like 'pithas' 'wah-karai', and sesame sweets for the grand feast that took place the night before the main festival.

On the eve of Magh Bihu, hundreds of people gathered at Dimoria in the Kamrup district to take part in the community fishing. It is an age-old tradition that is only practiced here and nowhere else in Assam.

People came from different areas in Assam and enjoyed as they participated in the event. (ANI)
