Melbourne, Jan.23 (ANI): Petra Kvitova outlasted Ana Ivanovic on Monday to sail into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and moved closer to swiping Caroline Wozniacki's top spot.
In her first win over the Serb in four meetings, Kvitova chalked up a straight sets victory - taking the match 6-2 7-6 (7-2) in 1 hour and 25 minutes.
She will now play the winner of the fourth round clash between China's Jie Zheng and Italian Sara Errani.
Her idol, Martina Navratilova, has already declared Kvitova top of the pile, while the latter has said that she will comment on the achievement when she gets it.
"Clearly nobody feels that Wozniacki is a true No.1," Navratilova said.
The Age further quoted Navratilova, as saying: "If we still had the same ranking system we were using six years ago when they were giving bonus points for beating players Kvitova would have ended up No.1 because she had beaten more top players than Wozniacki."
Kvitova whipped Ivanovic in 31 minutes in the first set.
The second set last much longer as it went into the tie break. (ANI)
