BJP slams Manmohan, Sonia over corruption

New Delhi, Sun, 22 Jan 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad has slammed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi for turning a blind eye to corruption even as they blamed the opposition-ruled states of misusing government funds.

"Manmohan Singh said that Punjab has not developed. Manmohan Singh, please answer how much has country developed during seven years since you have been the Prime Minister of the country. There is economic slowdown and prices are rising. Both Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh said that government fund has been misused," Prasad told media here on Saturday

"What kind of language is this? Is the fund of the government their own money?" asked Prasad.

Prasad further slammed Sonia Gandhi for remaining silent on multi-billion telecom scam and the 2010 Commonwealth Games scam.

"Sonia, you remain silent on Chidambaram. You have not spoken a word about Raja-when he plundered (Rupees) 1.73 trillion. You have not spoken about the Commonwealth Games scam whether it is Kalmadi or Sheila Dikshit. The CAG has submitted its report, the Shunglu Committee has submitted its report and the Supreme Court has intervened. But when you (Sonia) goes to state you talks big," Prasad said.

The BJP leader also asked the government to halt the enrolment of the Unique Identity Card till security concerns were met.

"All these serious issues impinging upon the national security, integrity of data, sanctity of data, security audit of data being collected, must be properly addressed and timeframe within which the National Population Register is going to be finalised. Till these issues are addressed this whole proposal to widen the net of scheme up to 20 crore or more must be stopped forthwith," added Prasad.

The elections in five states, including the most populous Uttar Pradesh, would be held from January 28 to March 03. (ANI)
