New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit today dedicated the first renewal energy assisted pump (REAP) system in Mayur Vihar.
The REAP system is an easy to install submersible pump connected to a water tank with an especially designed motor power by a solar panel. It is a green power solution capable of meeting water storage and pumping needs of users in both rural and urban India.
The technology has been developed by BSES Yamuna Power Ltd. in collaboration with IIT Delhi with the aim of reducing global warming and other green house effects.
Chief Minister Dikshit said that the REAP technology is relevant for today and will continue to be relevant for the future, as it will reduce consumption of power during morning peak demand hours when most of the customers switch on their pumps for getting water.
She further stated that the generation of power with thermal and gas may become difficult in coming years as the resources are not going to last forever.
She expressed the hope that this pilot REAP project will prove to be successful and encourage more and more people to adopt it and help Delhi become a carbon neutral city.
Delhi Power Minster Haroon Yusuf on the occasion also expressed confidence that the technology will prove to be useful in-group housing societies in Delhi. (ANI)
