Malaysian Chinese body chief claims Indians disrespected by political coalition Pakatan

Kuala Lumpur, Thu, 19 Jan 2012 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 19(ANI): The vice-president of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung has claimed that the Pakatan Rakyat political coalition doesn't respect Indians.

He pointed toward the coalition's recent national convention, which failed to highlight any Indian leaders and the lack of Indian representation at the event.

"It is bad enough that gender segregation was enforced on both the audience as well as the press corps, to which DAP and PKR bigwigs could only sit and watch and do nothing," said Heung in a statement yesterday.

He said that not including Indian leaders on the official banner proved his point.

"The convention's organizers also marginalized Karpal Singh by excluding his picture from the official banner although he is DAP chairman. The claims by PKR and DAP that they represent multi-racial interests have fallen flat."

"It was likely that Pakatan had omitted Karpal's image as they knew he is just a figurehead. PAS was likely to have taken his picture out since Karpal was the only DAP leader to have openly voiced his opposition against hudud laws," he added.

He also pointed to the exclusion of a picture of Bersih 2.0 chairman Datuk S. Ambiga despite of the fact that she was invited as a guest speaker, The Star reports.

Chor also mentioned various other occurrences, which highlighted Pakatan's anti-India stand.

One such incident was when Taiping DAP MP Nga Kor Ming described Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir as "metallic black" in a PAS-organised ceramah last year.

In another incident that Komtar DAP assemblyman Ng Wei Aik had told a nasi kandar restaurant operator to "balik India" (Go back to India).

Chor feels that Pakatan craves for the support of Indian community but it has failed to even show basic respect towards them, leave aside taking care of their problems.

"All races are represented in policy decisions at both federal and state government levels, something which PAS, PKR and DAP leaders should start to learn about," he added. (ANI)
