ATP World Tour boss Drewett describe claims of a players strike as 'sensational'

Sydney, Wed, 18 Jan 2012 ANI

Sydney, Jan 18(ANI): Recently appointed ATP World Tour executive chairman and president Brad Drewett has played down claims of disgruntlement amongst top tennis players and termed claims of a looming strike as 'sensational'.

The proposition of a possible strike by top tennis professionals came out after a player meeting was conducted on Saturday over their exasperation with scheduling and the prize money.

Drewett claimed that men's tennis was in an unbelievable shape.

He confirmed that there will be a considerable rise in the prize money and this season would also be shorter.

"I saw it as a very constructive meeting where I want to encourage guys to speak openly in that forum, speak openly with me," said Drewett.

Drewett believes that there are always issues present in a sport and the tennis world isn't perfect to stay away from such issues, The Herald Sun, reports.

"I think, as I said, there's always some issue around. There is some frustration on certain points within the game. Nothing's ever perfect in any world, and certainly not in the tennis world," he added.

"I think the game is clearly in a great spot. That doesn't mean there's not always going to be some issues on the side. That's for me to listen. I heard the players loud and clear the other night about their issues."

Drewett stressed that he was always ready to hear the grievances of top tennis players and they should feel free to approach him.

"They're obviously a very, very important part of this organization. As a former player, I hope I understand their issues as much as anyone."My plan is to represent their opinions wherever it needs to be represented and make sure they're heard," he added. (ANI)
