Faizabad (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 15 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from Ayodhya, Pawan Pandey, who has trimmed down his wedding expenses due to strict model code of conduct declared by the Election Commission (EC) in the poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday expressed his unhappiness of being forced to limit his fairytale wedding.
"The Election Commission has ordered us to keep it on a low scale. They feel that by inviting many people and by large-scale celebrations, it would lead to violation of the model code of conduct. So, we will not do it lavishly," Pandey told mediapersons here.
"But I would only like to say that I would always feel sad about having married in the absence of the near and dear ones and the elderly," he added.
Meanwhile, Pandey's father Raj Bhusan Sharma noted that the wedding could not be postponed after the elections.
"We have paid in advance to everyone and so I cannot postpone this marriage in any way because it will be a huge monetary loss due to it. We people belong to the low-income group. So, it is very important to carry on with the marriage as per plans," he said.
Pawan Pandey is the nephew of Jay Shankar Pandey, who is considered to be an old loyalist of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates of UP poll on December 24 and the model code of conduct came into force with immediate effect.
Polls in Uttar Pradesh are to be conducted in seven phases between February 8 and March 3. The counting of votes would take place on March 6.
Uttar Pradesh will elect a new 403-member state assembly in March, and the poll results are expected to broadly indicate trends for 2014 general elections. (ANI)
