Australia retains same squad for PerthTest

New Delhi, Thu, 10 Jan 2008 NI Wire

Cricket Australia's National selection Panel (NSP) has retained same squad on Thursday to take part in the third 3 mobile Test against India commencing at the WACA in Perth from January 16.

The selectors announced an unchanged 12-man squad who were picked for the first two Tests. Giving the nature of bouncy Perth pitch, the Australian team management might go with an extra fast bowler and chinaman bowler Brad Hogg is likely to be replaced by seamer Shaun Tait in the side.

Opening batsmen Matthew Hayden place in the final eleven is also uncertain as he is nursing a leg injury. Hayden scored centuries in both the Tests but couldn't be able to take field on the last day of the Sydney Test and faces a fitness test.

Australia leads the four-match series 2-0 after posting a record-equalling 16th straight Test win in the historical Sydney Test, which will be reminiscent in the years to come, not for the cricket but for its controversies.

According to NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch, “The National Selection Panel has retained the same 12-man squad that represented Australia in the first two games of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Matthew Hayden's fitness will be reviewed by medical staff in the days leading up to the Test match.

Australian Squad: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Phil Jaques, Michael Hussey, Michael Clarke, Andrew Symonds, Brad Hogg, Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson, Stuart Clark and Shaun Tait.
