Trichy (Tamil Nadu), Sept 28 (ANI): A woman cab driver in Trichy in Tamil Nadu entered the Limca book of records for driving her taxi with 49 people on Sunday.
Thirty-six-year-old Poonkodi belongs to Trichy District. Her cab was flagged of by the District Collector from Rock Port place located in the heart of the city.
Poonkodi covered a distance of two kilometres with 49 persons on board in 13 minutes and 47 seconds to set this record.
A previous record is in the name of Kiribhakiri from Chennai, which he had set in 1995 when he drove a cab with 42 persons.
An official of Limca Book of Records was present on the occasion to oversee the event.
"Poonkodi drove a cab with 49 people. Earlier a man Kiribhakiri who belongs to Chennai, carried 42 persons in 1995, held the record. Poonkodi has broken his records and carried 49 persons. She covered a distance of two km in of 13.47 seconds and has set a new record," said Jeitly, an official from Limca Book of Records.
Poonkodi knows how to drive car, bus, van and motorcycle. It was her passion for driving and to do something unique which made her break this record.
After breaking the record Poonkodi, thanked the people of Trichy and said more women should come forward to attempt such records.
"I am very happy about my achievement. Everyone has supported me all through. I also give the credit to people of Trichy. I wish that many more women should come forward and attempt such records," said Poonkodi.
Locals from across the city gathered in large numbers to witness this unique record-breaking effort. (ANI)
