Ratan Tata moves Supreme Court on telephone tapping of Nira Radia

New Delhi, Mon, 29 Nov 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Nov 29 (ANI): TATA Group chairman Ratan Tata on Monday moved the Supreme Court against the publication of intercepts of his conversations with Public Relations (PR) representative Nira Radia, who handles the corporate communication for the Tata Group.

The phone transcripts are part of the evidence in the 2G spectrum scam and have been made public.

Tata's petition wants the Centre to probe the leak of tapes and take action accordingly.

Earlier, he said that taped conversation should be used for prosecution purposes alone.

He also said that the tape controversy was created to smokescreen around the real issue behind the 2G scam.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had questioned Radia for her alleged role in the scam.

Radia was summoned after the tapes exposed how she allegedly lobbied with senior journalists and telecom companies in the 2G-spectrum scam.

The Central Bureau of investigation (CBI) had in an affidavit said to the Supreme Court that the role of Radia would be examined in the 2G-spectrum allocation case in which irregularities were of "enormous magnitude" having international ramifications. On November 22, the investigating agency filed a fresh affidavit in the apex court, and said the telephonic conversation between Radia and others were being examined.
