Dec 28:  Former champion Bangalore Hi-Fliers scored a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Hyderabad Sultans to fly on top of the points table and also to stay on in the hunt for a possible semi-final place in the 4th Premier Hockey League played at the Sector-42 stadium here on Thursday.

With this win, Hi-Fliers leads the table with eight points, while Sultans remains on five in the points table.

Hi-Fliers started the proceedings on a sedate note, as their defenders kept the attacks of Sultans forwards Didar Singh and Sardara Singh at bay, but later got hold of the match.

Hi-Fliers took the lead in the 23rd minute thorough agile Korean import You Hyo-sik. Cheyanna sent a cross from the top of the striking circle to Arjun Halappa on his left. Arjun took a vicious shot at the goal, which was well deflected by You Hyo-sik in front of rival custodian to the net.

Hi-Fliers exerted more pressure in the rival citadel after surging ahead but Sultans came back strongly to restore parity in the 46th minute. Jasbir Singh long shot from the centre got deflection from Vinay’s stick, who tried to stop it. The ball went up in the air and assiduous Didar Singh got it in from close quarters.

Bangalore players didn’t lose their impetus as they mounted more pressure, after conceding a goal, by launching countless raids. They rejuvenated themselves and kept up the tempo resulting to find the match-winner in the 60th minute through a brilliant field goal.

Vinay sent a defence tearing cross from the right flank and found unmarked Tushar Khandekar inside the circle. Tushar got hold of the ball and instantly slammed a thundering shot that sharply went into the goal to seal the fate of the opponents. Tushar Khandekar was declared man of the match for his fine performance.
