New Delhi, Wed, 24 Sep 2008 NI Wire

In the day one of the season-opening Irani trophy clash, Delhi picked up well in their bowling from 161/3 to finally restrain the Rest of India (RoI) at 252. Ishant Sharma, Pradeep Sangwan and Chetanya Nanda remain on the top taking three wickets each.

At the end of day’s play, Delhi were 21 without loss with Akash Chopra (16) and Gautam Gambhir (4) on the crease.

Electing to bat first, the RoI team opener Rahul Dravid and Wasim Jaffer built a good platform till the 25th over with 77 runs on the board. Jaffer made a good knock of 50 before falling to Nanda.

Dravid though struggled to a bit, but too contributed 46 runs before trapped leg before the wicket by Ishant Sharma.

From here on, the team buckled and couldn’t manage a good partnership as wickets continued to fall: S Badrinath (16), VVS Laxman (17) and Mohammad Kaif (29).
