Islamabad, Oct 12 (ANI): The "Indo-Pak Express" comprising Pakistan's Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and India's Rohan Bopanna is again in news, as the duo's image taken during the semifinals of the US Open 2010 has been nominated for the Peace and Sport award.
The image shows tennis partners Qureshi and Bopanna chatting with the Pakistani and Indian ambassadors to the United Nations after their US Open men's doubles semi-final win over Eduardo Schwank and Horacio Zeballos, the Dawn reported.
Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN Abdullah Hussain Haroon had attended the match along with his Indian counterpart Hardeep Singh Puri despite tense political relations between the two countries.
Both players had hailed the moment as a 'breakthrough' for India and Pakistan.
"It was a beautiful thing to see them both sitting together, clapping for the same cause and wanting us to win, it was a beautiful thing to see," Qureshi said after the match.
Meanwhile, Bopanna revealed that the ambassadors were contacted by the ATP and invited to the match. "We are really glad that they took some time out and watched us play," he added.
The duo, now at number six men's doubles rankings, are vying to maintain their spot in order to qualify for next month's ATP Finals.
The award has been organized by the Peace and Sport Organization, which aims at promoting world peace through sports persons and teams.
While voting for the award is currently open on the organization's website, the winners will be announced on December 2. (ANI)
