Uncontrolled cross-border terrorism, spurt in infiltration and violations of ceasefire by the Pakistan Army will dominate the talks between Manmohan Singh and Asif Ali Zardari when the two leaders will meet for the first time after the latter was elected as the President of Pakistan in early September.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is on a 10-day visit to USA and France keeping nuclear deal and commerce high on agenda, will hold bilateral talk with Pakistan on Wednesday on the sidelines of United Nations 63rd General Assembly in New York.
The agenda, however, is not restricted to terrorism and infiltration only, the Indian leadership is likely to discuss entire gamut of issues. Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon, who is accompanied with Dr. Singh expressed the same view while taking off to New York from Frankfurt on Tuesday morning.
India will also ask for the progress made in investigation in the terror attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul in July this year.
This issue will be kept as a part of the pledge that Pakistan Prime Minister Yousf Raza Gillani had taken to probe in Kabul bombing case after India provided enough evidence of involvement of ISI in the attack.
Cordial relationship can not be maintained in terror prone environment. For this, terror free atmosphere is needed to take ahead the dialogue process between the two countries. Dr. Singh, official sources say, is looking forward to hold talks on the entire length of relationship with Pakistan President Zardari. The bilateral meeting will provide an occasion to push the peace process between the two countries.
Pakistan, too, is a victim of terrorist attack, officials sources say keeping forward the recent Saturday terrified blasts at Marriot Hotel in the high security zone of well-planned city of Islamabad, but that does not lessen his alleged complicity in terrorist attack in India. And, if Pakistan feels the heat of terrorism then why it allows its surface for the use of terrorists.
New Delhi is however expecting some constructive outcome of the bilateral discussions as the new government in Pakistan has shown its enthusiasm to maintain the cordial relationship between the two countries.
Apart from Pakistan, Dr. Singh will hold another bilateral meeting with the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday. The border issue, trade and other vital issues is likely to dominate the deliberations between the two countries.
Differences on the border issue narrowed down last week, sources say, when the special representatives of the two countries held another round of talks on the border issue. The talks have been termed as held in candid and constructive manner.
Dr. Manmohan Singh will be visiting Beijing next month to hold talks with the Chinese leadership. Earlier his maiden visit had taken place in January this year when the two leaders had decided to accelerate the peaceful solution to border issues.
