Hindus urge Hollywood bigwigs to stop using Hinduism

Nevada, USA, Mon, 22 Sep 2008 NI Wire

Taking a serious note of the cases of portraying Hinduism in an impious manner by Hollywood film makers, the Hindus has advised Hollywood celebrities to shun using Hinduism merely as fashion statement and start respecting the faith and cultural sense of other religions.

Hindus welcome Hollywood celebrities to immerse in Hinduism but taking it seriously and not just using it as a fashion statement. Hinduism, the oldest and third largest religion of the world with rich philosophical thought always attracts artists and philosopher to enrich their creative orbit.

In the wake of some recent Hollywood films which present some objectionable and inappropriate content subjected to Hinduism, Zed, who is the president of Universal Society of Hinduism, says that If Hollywood bigwigs are really serious in their involvement with Hinduism, they are most welcome and they will gladly provide these seekers the resources they need for their study and research.

But if their involvement in Hinduism is just because it appears hip to sample a little flavour, sprinkle little terminology around, show off a symbol/image/style; or to advance their own non-spiritual agenda; or it solely sounds flip; it sometimes results in pillaging serious spiritual doctrines and revered symbols and hurting the devotees, Zed points out.

Hollywood celebrities need to have more patience and go beyond the superficial because Hinduism concepts evolved over thousands of years and need serious study. There are no short cuts and mishmash creates more confusion. Moksha, brahm, dharma, karma, samadhi, mantra, etc., are contemplative concepts not to be thrown around loosely or used for dramatic effects, Rajan Zed argues.
