Dec 17: The much talked about I-league match between table-toppers Dempo Sports club, Goa and second placed JCT Mills Phagwara turned out to be a wishy-washy affair as both the teams played a goalless draw to share a point each and enjoy the status of being unbeaten in the tournament thus far.
After Sunday’s outcome Dempo continues to stay at the top with 14 points while JCT placed second with only two points behind the Goan outfit.
The lone I-league match played at the Delhi’s Ambekar stadium was an absolute listless encounter as both the teams couldn’t be able to produce quality soccer in front of handful of capital football lovers on a somewhat sunny winter afternoon.
JCT initiated an early attack and rewarded with a free-kick just outside the box in the very 2nd minute that ended up with a wayward feeble shot by Brazilian Eduardo.
Dempo got their first opportunity to surge ahead in the 7th minute when Sameer Naik’s fine cross from the left flank yielded no result since Anthony Pereira couldn’t reach on time.
Beto’s stunner tested JCT’s custodian Karanjit Singh but couldn’t change the Zero figure adjacent to team’s name in the stadium’s electronic scoreboard.
The body language was completely missing from the players of either side as if both the teams were playing for a draw, which was later ruled out by the respective club’s coaches Sukhwinder Singh and Armando Colaco, but still both were happy with the end result and after managing a single point.
During the latter half of the match there were hardly any planned moves from both sides except one or two forays in the rival citadel concluding the match in to a goalless draw.
