Allowances hike for selectors and Board members

Dec 15:  The finance committee of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) raised the daily allowance (DA) and incidental expenses for all Board members including selectors in a meeting held here on Friday.

According to Board secretary, Niranjan Shah the amount will be hiked in both DA (earlier Rs 5,000) and incidentals (earlier, Rs 7,000), as now the amount has been raised to Rs 10,000 each.

There was no discussion on any package for the selectors, after the selectors were banned from writing syndicated columns in newspapers and chairman selection committee Dilip Vengsarkar had asked for compensation.

The decision couldn’t be taken, as Board President Sharad Pawar’s green signal is required for taking any decision further. But it is on the cards that the Board's working committee, which will be meeting on Sunday, might come out with a decision on this issue.

Another important decision, which is likely to be announced on Sunday, that former Test opener WV Raman is all set to acquire the new position of Indian under-19 team’s coach. He will be joining the team on the tour to South Africa in January.

Raman is currently coaching the Tamil Nadu’s Ranji side. He will take over the position from Lalchand Rajput, who was recently promoted and appointed as assistant coach of Team India.

Meanwhile, the scheduled meeting between Vengsarkar and Pawar on Friday at the inauguration of an indoor stadium in Bandra Kurla Sports complex could not take place. Both were present but failed to spare time. The meeting is likely to take place today.
