Dec 14: With a view to give tough competition to the counterpart bike manufacturer companies and to secure its presence in the motorcycle market, India’s third largest motorcycle maker, TVS Motor Company has launched its new bike 125 cc ‘Flame’ on Thursday in Chennai.
The launch comes amidst the TVS Company’s ongoing legal battle with India’s second bigger motorcycle maker Bajaj Auto Ltd. over the technology usage in its new bike.
While the company has started selling its bike ‘Flame’ in Chennai, it has decided to launch nationwide from January.
The ex-showroom price of Flame has been fixed at Rs 45,000 in Chennai with disc brakes as an option.
“This is the highest technology product in the country. A three-valve bike has been rolled out earlier, but this is for the first time that a mass market roll-out is happening,” said Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director, TVS Motor at a press conference on Thursday.
As per the Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) claim the bike could deliver a mileage of 82 km per litre. “No vehicle (in this segment) anywhere nears this on mileage,” Mr. Srinivasan said.
TVS Motor said that it has fixed target of 20,000 bikes to be sold every month once the bike is launched countrywide by the month of January. Along with the company’s new Star Sport bike to be launched hopefully by the January, the Flame would help to boost up the sales of the company, he expects. Soon, by January after launching of both bikes across the nation, the TVS Motor would be expecting to manufacture 75,000 bikes a month.
Although Mr. Srinivasan refused to comment on the tussle with the Bajaj Auto but, he spoke frankly on the apple of discord. He spoke the core of controversy is the digital twin spark plug ignition (DTSi) technology that Bajaj uses in its bike XCD.
While Bajaj claims that TVS Company is using his technology in its Flame bike, TVS asserts that it is using technology called controlled combustion variable timing intelligent (CC-VTi). Besides, DTSi technology, which Bajaj is claiming its own, is worldwide known and is being used extensively all over the world since decades.
Mr. Srinivasan said our company has anticipated monthly sales of 1.30 lacks two wheelers in the last quarter of this year. Three wheelers would be start selling from early next year.

Mr. Srinivasan said TVS Motor had forecast monthly sales of 1.30 lakh two wheelers (75,000 of which will be motorcycles) in the last quarter of this fiscal. Three-wheeler sales would commence from January. This, he said, would add 40,000 units a year from 2008-09.
He said TVS Motor would export 1.40 lakh vehicles this year. Last year, it exported one lakh vehicles.
