Surendranagar (Gujarat), Sept 20 (ANI): Authorities in Surendranagar in Gujarat are gearing up to evacuate marooned villagers after floodwaters submerged over 20 villages in the last three days.

Many places in the area have turned into virtual islands making movement difficult.

The local administration along with fire brigade team has chipped in for rescuing hundreds of stranded villagers who are deprived of daily requirements.

"We are providing food materials to the affected families. Once the water starts receding, we will set up camps to check the spread of diseases. We are sending chemicals for the disposal of dead cattle," said Anandi Ben Patel, state Revenue Minister.

Surendranagar-Ahmedabad Highway too was closed though no loss of life has been reported so far from the area.

Floodwaters have submerged over 20 villages for the last three days in Gujarat.

At least ten villages including Dhingana, Loliyadeep, Thebra and Bagodara are worst affected as the rainwater has flooded the villages and life has become standstill.

Meanwhile, heavy rains for the past two to three days in Nashik district of aharashtra have swamped over 400 families living on the bank of riverodavari.

Four out of six bridges affected due to floods in the district have been closed.

District administration has alerted families on the bank of the river to move to safer places.

Assam and Bihar are already battling floods.

More than four million people fled their homes when the Kosi river, which originates in Nepal, burst a dam last month and unleashed water downstream in Bihar. (ANI)
