Dec 13: Hosts Rajasthan players’ made mockery of the game by showing needless alacrity fashioning five run-outs in their second innings and eventually falling three runs short in achieving their target.
Visitors Mumbai pulled off a nail biting two-run win over Rajasthan after last three batsmen were dismissed off the final three balls of the match on the action-packed last day of their Ranji Trophy Super League match here on Wednesday.
Hosts Rajasthan required 384 for an outright victory after resuming its second innings on 48 for one on the last day. Riding on opener V. Saxena valiant ton 122 (234b, 20x4, 1x6) Rajasthan surprisingly came at the verge of victory but faltered at the doorstep after being bowled out on the score of 381.
Visitors escape defeat scalping three wickets in the last three balls of the final over before N.S. Doru (82) and Robin Bist (64) contributed in their team’s total with good half-century knocks.
Rajasthan just needed 46 runs in seven overs when Rohit Jhalani got himself run out for 14 in the form of fifth wicket triggering a collapse, which caused further three more run-outs with a total of five in the innings.
Both Mumbai and Maharashtra are placed joint second with 15 points each with Delhi topping the list with 17.
“The run outs saved our day as they came in such a crucial period that it crippled the confidence of the opposing team. The panic mounted with every delivery and that made the game exciting,” said Mumbai coach Praveen Amre.
