Rajkot (Gujarat), Sep 1 (ANI): Incessant rains for the past two days in Gujarat's Rajkot District has flooded the area, forcing people to leave their houses on Wednesday.
Although Gondal town of Rajkot district received just two inches of rainfall on Tuesday evening, heavy rains upstream caused the Gondali River to flood the low-lying areas.
"It rained heavily last night. We are out of our houses. There is a heavy flow of water. Where should we go? Today, some government officials came and they have managed to control the situation a bit. Where would the poor go? Our houses are also broken," said Gulab Bhai, a local.
The officials of the municipal corporation claimed that they are working to help the affected people since Tuesday evening, and shifted more than 1,000 people to the Town Hall.
"Our office got the message at 4 p.m. last evening that... has overflowed and that Gondali river would also overflow, so we issued several warnings and shifted over 1,000 people living on the banks of the Gondali river in Gonda taluka to the Gonda Municipal Town Hall by evening. Several NGOs (Non-Governmental Organisations) arranged food for them," said Chandubhai Parakhiya, Deputy Collector, Gondal.
Parakhiya added that though it rained heavily, the water level of the river has come down, and people can return to their houses. By Parish Joshi (ANI)
