Dec 11: Former South African cricketer Nicky Boje clearly denied any participation whatsoever on match-fixing scandal, relating to the allegations over his involvement, when the Delhi Police officials grilled him for more than an hour here on Tuesday.
Boje alongwith his team mate Herschelle Gibbs were named in a Delhi police investigation into match-fixing during South Africa's Test tour in 2000 that led to a life ban for then captain, late Hansie Cronje.
The Crime Branch investigators questioned his connection with the alleged bookies Sanjeev Chawla, Rajesh Kalra, Kishen Kumar and Sunil Dhara who had reportedly fixed matches during that time.
“Boje has denied his involvement in the match fixing," Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) S C Garg told reporters after interrogation.
"The case is still open. If there is a need we will question Boje again. We are examining all aspects of the case,” Garg added.
Since there has been no deadline for filing chargesheet in the case so any number of players can be quizzed. Delhi Police registered the case against Boje seven years back in May 2000.
The South African player, who retired from international cricket last year, is in the country to play in the ICL matches. Delhi Police served him a notice on December five to make himself available for investigation in his alleged involvement in the scandal.
Another co-accused South African player Hershelle Gibbs was questioned by Delhi Police in October last year, while Cronje has died in a plane crash.
The South African high commission officials accompanied Boje in the morning and an ICL lawyer was also present during the probing.
