Faizabad, Aug 5 (ANI): Fear of floods has compelled some villagers in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad district to break their homes for collecting building materials to use it later on and move to safer locations.
Floodwaters are eroding the bank of rivers engulfing large chunks of land and homes in the surrounding areas.
Villagers have lost hope, as the government is allegedly providing no assistance to these people.
"People left in the village are worried, there are around 165 families in the village everyone is scared. Everyone wants to leave, as there is no arrangement to stop the erosion. The government is also not doing anything," said Ram Naresh, a victim.
The villagers accused the government of not providing any assistance or compensation for the damage caused.
"There is not much floodwater in the river but the erosion of the banks, the village is suffering a lot. Thousands of Bigha have been eroded, people have not been able to do agriculture and around 12 to 14 houses have been swept away out of which three were concrete houses and they did not get any compensation from the government," said Om Prakash, village head.
The monsoon this year has caused heavy floods in parts of India like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and central Madhya Pradesh states, causing heavy devastation to life and property. (ANI)
