Dec 04: Tata Sky Limited, one of the leading DTH television service providers in India running in the partnership between the Tata Group and Star TV has now added another service in its foray by offering educational service on the DTH platform.
Tata Sky has made a deal with the Hyderabad based 24x7guru.com, an online assessment service provider owned by Learnsmart India, that offers online material for students between class 3 and 10 to access their skills in different subjects such as mathematics, general knowledge and science and has been popular among students and parents for improving analytical skills of students.
With the involvement of education service on DTH platform, this is another value added service in addition with the earlier ACTVE WIZKIDS – a unique edutainment service launched in Sep 14, 2006.
As not all households have Internet access to computer and Internet, this collaboration earlier through WIZKIDS and now 24x7guru will certainly penetrate a larger mass making learning enjoyable and entertainment across children.
As per official of the company the service will be free in the initial period and later the company will charge a nominal price of Rs 4 per month.
With the same format as present on the website www.24x7guru.com children can have access to 50 new questions with answers each day on their Tata Sky television set and also can be easily navigated with the remote. Children can go through the question set and assess their knowledge later on comparing the answer sheet. 24x7guru will provide the content for students in the age group 7-11.
Chief executive officer of Learnsmart India, K S Muralidhar, explained that television can be an extremely powerful teaching tool, and has the potential to touch every aspect of the academic curriculum. The new service is intended to motivate students to use Broadcast technology to complement their learning effort.
The company is also planning to offer education material content through the DTH platform for secondary students in the age group 12-18 as said by the chief marketing officer of Tata Sky Vikram Mehra.
The most important aspect of the popularity of such service with self-assessment tools is that it’s more convenient and economically alternative to computer and Internet and also a better complement to child’s classroom education.
