Panchkula (Haryana), July 18 (ANI): In a daring rescue operation, a special squad of divers saved three people from drowning in the raging Ghaggar rivulet in Haryana's Panchkula District.
The three men were stranded on a small islet on Saturday surrounding by strong currents in the overflowing rivulet since many hours, unable to swim across due to the raging waters.
Braving their way through the water flow, the rescue team, comprising district firefighters and police officials, immediately sprang into action and quickly brought the stranded people to safety.
"The water was indeed coming very fast. It almost swept me away. The water flow was remarkably strong. However, God is kind and is the protector of lives. I tried my best to save these people, but it was only due to divine strength," said D. S. Malik, Deputy Fire Officer of Panchkula, who was leading the team of divers.
Extensive tracts of land remain submerged under water in Haryana and the neighbouring Punjab state due to massive flooding caused by multiple breaches in the canal of the Ghaggar River.
Scores of villages in the region have been inundated due to continuous heavy downpour over the last few days.
A significant loss of life, property and livestock has been caused due to the floods. (ANI)
