Rajkot, July 17 (ANI): Secondary section of Rashtriya Shala (Gandhian school) in Rajkot has shut down due to poor enrollment. The school that sticks to Gandhian values and ideology has failed to compete with other English medium schools in the city.
Its primary section is also on verge of extinction because there are no taker for Gandhian values and ideologies in the State where Mahatma Gandhi was born.
Ushakant Mankad, Secretary of Rashtriya Shala Trust said parents now-a-days want to send their children to English medium schools.
The principal of the school said that the school had to stop transport facilities also as the students from far off areas did not turn up.
"The students who used to come from far away places are also not coming," said Navinchandra Joshi, Principal of Rashtriya Shala.
Earlier the students were taught, weaving Khadi on spinning wheel to prepare them for self-employment, but that too was removed that as a compulsory subject in the face of criticism.
Rashtriya Shala was founded in 1921 to impart education on Gandhian thought. The school is part of a sprawling campus that also includes other Gandhian institutes like Khadi Gram Udhyog, Charkha Centre and a music school. (ANI)
