Kaithal (Haryana), July 11(ANI): Floods continued affecting several villages in Haryana's Kaithal District on Sunday, where partially submerged villages in low-lying areas led people to take shelter on rooftops.
"Thousand acres of land for farming has been washed away. All the crops have been destroyed and the dry fodder has been destroyed. The condition of animals is also pathetic. Even the houses have drowned in water," said Ramesh Chand, a local.
At least 11 people have died in the flood, following which the villagers are complaining that the government's approach to the situation is irresponsible.
The districts of Ambala, Kurukshetra and Kaithal are among the worst affected.
Meanwhile, several NGOs are providing helping hands to the locals.
According to reports, the state has incurred losses to the tune of almost Rs. 6.5 billion, including damage to crops, property and roads.
Earlier, the army had plugged the breach in the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, but the situation worsened on Saturday, when another breach took place in Ghaggar near Haryana's Fatehabad and Punjab's Sangrur district. (ANI)
