Nov 30: AIFF signs an agreement with the organisers of the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profesional (LPFP) to promote overall football structure in India with a special attention at the grassroots level.
In its effort to shape and raise the standard of the nation’s soccer the All India Football Federation (AIFF) signed a protocol with the organisers of Portuguese Football League for the overall development of football with a thrust at the grassroots level.
The Vice President of the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profesional (LPFP) Ricardo Castanheira and AIFF General Secretary Alberto Colaco signed the pact here on Friday.
The signing of the deal was a sports protocol between the two countries on the occasion the India-European Union summit. AIFF President Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi and M. Laurentino Dias, Minister of Youth and Sports of Portugal were also present at the time of agreement.
“We will get full support from the LPFP to help us in grass root development programme, coaching programme and in supporting infrastructure through our I-League,” said Dasmunsi after the deal.
After entering into this accord India will get progress in the field of Coaches Referees, Sports Medicine, technical and logistic interchange for the U-19 and U-16 teams. It will also benefit us by reaching best practices to set up academies and training centers across the country.
On the occasion Dasmunsi urgedPortuguesedelegation, “We will invite you to the next international match in our country”, “I also request you to raise your voice for India at the next UEFA League meeting. Tell them about the market we have,” added Dasmunsi.
According to LPFP Vice-President Ricardo Castanheira, “We know the importance of football in our country and that is the reason we want to develop the same in India.”
“We share a strong historic relationship with India. We want to share our experience with your country,” he added.
All the activities would start by the end of February next year. The Portuguese organisers also invited Dasmunsi and AIFF general secretary Alberto Colaco to Portugal to take the understanding to the next level.
Stressing on the need of good football academies in India Castanheira said, “We have good academies in our country and that is the reason why we have world class players like Cristiano Ronaldo.”
A programme has been prepared for the next year that includes a seminar in development of sports infrastructure, courses for referees, training camp and friendly matches for various Indian National teams and a match between a Portuguese League team and an AIFF team.
