Rajkot, June 18 (ANI): Pre-monsoon showers in Gujarat's Rajkot city have encouraged farmers to start early sowing with expectation of sufficient rains.
Farmers have commenced sowing cotton, groundnut and sesame after Gujarat received sporadic showers a few days ago.
Farmers expect five percent increase in groundnut sowing and are also expecting a good yield this year.
"Due to early rains, we all family members got engaged in sowing. We sowed groundnut and cotton. Last year cotton yield was good and groundnut yield was less. This year rains are early and we are expecting good results," said Vijay Patel, a farmer.
The June-September monsoon rains are a major influence on the economy, as two-thirds of Indians depend on agriculture.
Farmers are hoping for ample rains in next few days to save their early sowing. (ANI)
