May 15: Violence seem to unrelenting in Pakistan. A bomb exploded in a hotel in the northwestern city of Peshawar in the country today killing at least 15 people and injuring many more.
The incident happened just after few days when 40 persons were killed in the economic hub of the country-Karachi, after supporters of MQM and suspended Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry started showering bullets on each other.
Quoting police authorities, Pakistani media revealed that the explosion ripped through the reception area of the four-story Marhaba Hotel in Peshawar's old city, killing 15 people and injuring 11 others. Few hours back police has reported the one death and six wounded all of them Pakistanis.
Pakistani authorities are still clueless about the nature of the bomb. "We do not know whether it was a suicide attack or if someone had put explosives in the hotel. We can only confirm that there was a big blast," provincial police chief told media.
Injured had been shifted to nearby hospitals and some of them are said to be in critical condition. Hospital authorities had revealed that death toll can increase as some of the injured are said to be very serious.
Since President Musharaff suspended chief justice Chaudhary from Supreme Court, there have been sporadic incidents of killings throughout the country.
Pakistan observers here in New Delhi are of the opinion that Pakistan is heading towards lawlessness and more such incidents are likely to occur in near future if the authorities don’t take extra measures.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Supreme Court's re-constituted full court, comprising 13 judges, Tuesday resumed hearing on 23 constitutional petitions, filed by suspended Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan Rana Bhagwandas had reconstituted the apex court Monday after Justice Falak Sher had refused to sit in the 14-judge Full Court to hear Chaudhry's petitions.
