Mumbai Police to dispose off RDX after 26/11 verdict

Mumbai, Thu, 29 Apr 2010 ANI

Mumbai, Apr 29 (ANI): Mumbai Police will to dispose off over 24 kilograms of RDX that was recovered from spots used by the 26/11 terror attackers after a verdict is delivered.

The Special Court in Mumbai has fixed May 3 as the day of the verdict.

Judge M H Tahaliyani had last month allowed police to dispose off the recovered RDX.

Police plan to burn the RDX in a controlled atmosphere in the presence of a magistrate, reports said.

The RDX was recovered from three unexploded improvised explosive devices-outside the Taj Mahal Hotel, near Gokul Restaurant and from an unclaimed baggage at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST).

Police placed the seized explosive before the court as evidence.

Arguing the case, Special Public Prosecutor Ujwal Nikam claimed that slain terrorists-Abdul Rehman Bada and Abu Ali, kept over ten kilograms of RDX-laden IED outside the main porch of the Taj Hotel.

Nikam also argued that two other terrorists-Abu Shoib and Abu Umer, who had fired at people at Leopold Cafe, had planted over ten kilograms of RDX-laden IED on a kerb near Gokul Restaurant.

The third pair of attackers, Ajmal Kasab and slain terrorist Abu Ismail, had kept RDX-filled IED in a bag at the CST station, before firing indiscriminately on people there.

None of these IEDs exploded thanks to the timely reaction of bomb detection squads. (ANI)
