Coimbatore, Apr 15 (ANI): To beat the scorching heat, a unique initiative has been started in Coimbatore where social workers are now distributing Lassi to the people free of cost.
Jayanthi Priya, who started the initiative, says that they have been doing this service for the past four years now.
"We are doing this service to quench the thirst of the people during this fiery summer.
Approximately, you see, we are doing this for the past four years. Normally we will start it during the month end of March but due to this hot summer, we have started it during first week of March itself. And we are planning to do this until the end of summer. We also have three mobile vehicles running all over Coimbatore and main public places to distribute this buttermilk to everybody," said Jayanthi Priya, a social worker.
People who consume this buttermilk are all praise for the quality of the drink distributed.
Until the onset of the monsoon, the months of May-June are usually the hottest in the country with the temperatures often crossing the range of 40 to 45 degrees Celsius at many places. (ANI)
