Nov 21: Next year is going to be an innovative year for India in the computer world because of two reasons; First, Intel Inc. is going to introduce a new India-designed-and-developed multiprocessor (MP) based on nano-technology by the end of 2008 and secondly, Seagate, a famous hard disk manufacturing company has announced to launch its innovative 1-Tera byte hard drive in India soon in the next year. It will be available for the general users.
World’s biggest computer chip manufacturer ‘Intel’ has announced to introduce India-designed-and-developed multiprocessor chip, ‘Dunnington’ Xeon for servers in India by the second half of 2008. Dunnington Xeon has been developed by nearby 2,700 Indian engineers of Intel Inc. in India at its Bangalore branch to target high-performance segment. This is the first time in India when Intel is going to launch its innovative India-designed-and-developed multiprocessor successfully. Earlier, it had abounded a chip ‘Whitefield‘ two years ago.
It is the most sophisticated design of any independent family of processors as claimed by a senior officer of Intel Corporation. This chip belongs to 45 nanometer (nm) chip series. The company also claims that the forthcoming series will be eco-friendly, faster and cooler in temperature.
Intel has used Hafnium-based high-K metal gate transistors in developing 45 nm series as company claims, “This newly developed chip will be 20 percent faster in switching speed while deducting 30 percent switching power.”
On the other hand, the renowned hard disk manufacturer company, Seagate has announced to launch its new generation hard drive of 1-Terabyte drives for providing better capacity and performance. It would belong to ‘Barracuda’ series.
Seagate is going to launch a series of ‘Barracuda’ family hard drive, Barracuda 7200.11 and Barracuda ES.2.
Barracuda 7200.11 is the 11 th generation in the Barracuda 7200 series that offers a continuous transfer rate of 105 Mbps, with a low power rating of 8 watts at the idle condition.
Barracuda ES.2 will be featured by Rotational Vibration Feed Forward (RVFF) system that delivers 7,200 rpm spin speed with average searching time of 8.5 milliseconds and caches up to 32 Megabyte. This new hard drive would feature with cool operating temperatures and low power consumption as company claims.
“Both hard drive will be available with 1 TB capacity in the Indian market with five year’s limited warranty by the mid of next year”, said a spokesperson of Seagate company. Though company has not disclosed the ‘price’ but indicates that it might be available nearly Rs.16,000.
Seagate has now eyeing on digital entertainment, security and surveillance markets in India after submitting these new capacity products into its kit.
