Jorhat (Assam), Sep.7 (ANI): 'Replica', a local cultural group, with the assistance of National School of Drama, recently performed William Shakespeare's famous play 'Macbeth' in Assam's Jorhat district.
The play prominently demonstrated the hidden talent of north eastern youth, and also reflected the deep interest of the people in theatre.
Macbeth narrates the story of a great warrior who is set out on a path of destruction as prophesised by three witches.
The play, which was staged for the first time in the early 17th century in England, has remained a popular classical tragedy since. And this time, it attracted Assamese speaking theatre lovers who enjoyed it thoroughly.
Bina Mahanta, a member in the audience, said: "I liked the show. The performance of the artists on the stage was also good. It was a nice show."
Manoj Baishya, the assistant director of the play, said: " Jorhat has always remained a cultural place, it's a great cultural place of Assam and it's really a dream place for me to work as a cultural worker in this place. The people of Jorhat love the cultural play and even many artists have come out from boro-Jorhat."
