Leander Paes failed to repeat history by winning two doubles titles in any major international tennis event as he and Lukas Dlouhy lost to Americans Mike and Bob Bryan in the final of the US Open men’s doubles clash on Friday night.
Bryan brothers regaining their doubles number one ATP ranking surpassed seventh seeded Indo-Czech duo 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (12-10) in an almost two-hour long match.
The defeat certainly limits Leander Paes for claiming his 9th Grand Slam crown after wining the mixed doubles with Zimbabwe’s Cara Black.
Bryans after a chasing a close first set, claim it later in a tiebreaker 7-5. The second set too went to another tiebreaker which they seal by 12-10 on their second match point.
Despite having a number of set points in the second set tie-break Paes and Lukas went conceding as many as nine double faults which cost them the hard.
This was Bryans’ sixth overall men’s Grand Slam doubles title including Wimbledon and French Open and twice at Australian Open. The duo too had a US Open title in 2005.
