Allahabad, March 14 (ANI): Muslim women took to streets and staged a mass demonstration in Allahabad city on Sunday to protest a remark by a Muslim cleric on their role in society vis-à-vis the Women's Reservation Bill.
The Women's Reservation Bill that was passed by Rajya Sabha earlier this week is meant to ensure 33 % reservation for women in Parliament and empower them with this step.
On Saturday, well-known Shia cleric Kalbe Jawwad said that women should stay at home and should have no role in politics.
He was reported to have said that had said women should become good mothers, for that is the role God has assigned to them. They should become mothers of good leaders rather than try to be leaders themselves.
The comment outrage a group of women in Allahabad which decided to stage their protest against the cleric's remarks.
Muslim women activists demanded that Jawwad, a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, to take back his words. (ANI)
