Ludhiana, Mar 12(ANI): Three labourers died and nearly a dozen others were injured when the roof of a building under construction caved in Ludhiana on Friday.
According to reports, the labourers were removing the metal sheets locally termed as lentars and used for the reinforced concrete ceiling.
Senior police officers assisted by the personnel fire brigade, rushed to the spot and supervised the rescue operations.
"We are engaged in the rescue operations. We are trying to rescue as many as possible. We will take appropriate action after verifying and ascertaining the cause of this mishap," said Snehadeep Sharma, Superintendent of Police of Ludhiana.
The wounded were admitted to the civil hospital.
Authorities believe more workers may be trapped under the debris.
"Till now three have died and out of seven injured who have been admitted to this hospital, one of them has serious head injury. Rest six of them are out of danger. The roof of the newly constructed building caved in and people got buried under the collapsed structure. The rescue operation is still on," said Dr. Mandeep Singh, surgeon at the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana.
The cause of accident has not yet been ascertained. (ANI)
