Coimbatore, Mar 9 (ANI): In an attempt to get registered in the Guinness Book of World Records, over 10,000 women participated in a fabric painting event organised here on Monday by scribbling and painting on a five kilometre long cloth.
Nearly 10,458 participants including women and college students, gathered at a private university in Coimbatore to write their thoughts and messages about women empowerment on the 5 kilometre long cloth.
The attempt was to fill the cloth within a time span of one and half hours.
"The unique feature of the programme is, in our university, we have arranged for a five kilometre long cloth and we have requested each member to express their feelings, what they think about women, what they want to do in future and I am very happy to announce that we have registered for Guinness records. We are very happy to announce that 10,458 women participated," said Saroja Prabhakaran, Organiser and Vice Chancellor, Avinashilingam University for Women, Coimbatore.
"I have expressed...like my quotation is when a man is educated, only he is benefited but when a women is educated, the whole world is benefited. This is what my view and my thoughts are about women," said Divya, a participant.
Representatives from the Guinness Book of world records were present while the record was being attempted.
A similar kind of record was attempted earlier on a three kilometre long cloth when 2000 women participated. (ANI)
