Nov 16: Musharraf played another card after swearing Mohammedmian Soomro as the caretaker Prime Minister on Friday saying that he has introduced the essence of democracy.
Former banker Soomro with the other member of the caretaker government were administered oath by Musharraf at Aiwan-e-Sadr or presidency during a ceremony.
He said, “We are creating history today because never has Pakistan seen such a smooth transition of government”.
“I take pride in the fact that I have introduced the essence of democracy, whether any one believes it or not,” he added further.
After the appointment of caretaker Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto was released from the house arrest. She will be given security but there will be no restriction on her movement.
Bhutto was put in a house arrest to stop her leading a protest against the emergency rule imposed by Musharraf.
U.S. Consul General Bryan Hunt visited her after her release it is reported that she has told him that it is difficult to work with some one who, instead of taking them towards democracy, took them backward towards military dictatorship.
Earlier too she had made it clear that she has given up the agenda to share power with Musharraf.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte on his visit to Pakistan will press on to lift emergency and free the political prisoners.
He said, “The political process in Pakistan has been derailed. Our message is that we want to work with the government and people of Pakistan and the political actors in Pakistan to put the political process back on track as soon as possible”.
Though it is speculated as the first step to go for the scheduled election but it has not created any support from the other political factions.
