Nov 15: A three-day International Conference on Medical History starting Today in Mumbai is one of its kinds organised for the first time in India. This will be in place at Indian Merchant Chambers and will focus on various aspects of medical history with trans-national and cross-cultural perspective.
The conference is being organised by the joint efforts of South Indian Education Society (SIES) and Welcome Trust Centre for History of Medicine of University College London (UCL).
Organised on the occasion of 75 th anniversary of SIES, one of the foremost donor to Indian education, the conference is to highlight the significance of history of medicine and the historical methods in carrying out medicinal study, conducting research and organising research material for further enhancement and study.
The importance of the history of medicine in India can be very well understood as more and more students opting medical practice as a career and this can also be assessed with the number of doctors and scholars its Universities are producing these days.
Academicians from India have also occupied some of the best positions in al most all prestigious Universities before world. Also India every year sends many post-graduate students to US and UK based universities.
The organisers in this international conference freely welcome participation by medical professionals, students, and academicians. Speakers from India, US, UK along with some of the eminent historians will chair the event to address all central topics of medical history.

Founded in 1932, the South Indian Education Society has significant contribution to Indian education covering all levels of education. With continuation, updation and upgradation of its educational programmes it has registered a respectable position as one of the oldest and premier educational institutions of Mumbai.
