Port Blair, Feb 5 (ANI): Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma today said the armed forces are the only organisation that takes action against any corrupt practices, while other organizations lag far behind.
The Navy Chief expressed his views when asked about the Sukhna land scam in which four senior Army generals were implicated, including former Military Secretary Lt. General Avdesh Prakash.
The Court of Inquiry (CoI) had indicted Lt. General Prakash and Lt General P K Rath for their role in issuing a no-objection certificate to a private firm, which falsely claimed to establish an affiliate of the famous Ajmer-based Mayo College on land adjacent to the Sukhna military station in Darjeeling.
Admiral Verma said no armed forces chief will like any charges being made against their officers. He noted that whenever there is a wrong doing in the forces, action is promptly taken.
Without naming politicians, the Navy Chief said Tehelka was a fine example where action was taken against armed forces officers involved in it, but the rest were left out. By Praful Kumar Singh ANI)
