New Delhi, Feb 4(ANI): Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday said that Abu Jindal could be the suspected Indian handler of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

Claiming that there could have been an Indian hand in the Mumbai terror attack Chidambaram said in an interview to a private news channel that voice samples of the suspect from Pakistan were essential to conclusively establish the identity of Abu Jindal, who is suspected to the Indian handler.

"There was a handler in 26/11 whom we have known for long, or suspected for a long time, could be an Indian," Chidambaram said.

"That's something we have known for many, many months now, he goes by the name Abu Jindal, but he is not Abu Jindal, that is not his real name," he added.

Chidambaram said it is difficult to ascertain who is he, unless Home Ministry gets a voice sample.

"Now we can't get a finger on who he is, unless we get a voice sample," he said and added "They (Pakistan) won't give us voice samples."

On Monday, after releasing monthly report card of the Home Ministry Chidambaram said the he "neither deny nor confirm the Indian hand in 26/11 terror attack."

Chidambaram said it is difficult to speculate whom the person he is unless and until India gets proper evidence.

"Now there could be speculation that Abu Jindal could be A, Abu Jindal could be B. Now you may be right in your speculation, but how as Home Minister can you speculate? I can't speculate," he said.

"Now secondly when we say he could be an Indian, he could be somebody who has acquired Indian characteristics," Chidambaram added.

Chidambaram said he (Jindal) could have infiltrated into India and lived here long time.

"He could have infiltrated into India and lived here long enough to acquire an Indian accent, familiarity with... Or he could be somebody who exfiltrated from India to Pakistan, and was adopted by the militants there," he said. (ANI)
