Nov 14: Icy Himachal is melting from the heat of assembly election fray as the polling for the first phase of election has begun today morning in tight security. Election Commission has deployed tight security to conduct a free and fair election for the three tribal seats.
The polling begins in 298 polling stations for the three reserved seats Kinnaur, Bharmour and Lahual-Spiti at 8:00 am and will go on till 5:00 pm. There are 12 candidates in the first phase of the election for the three schedule tribe seats. Approximately 1.27 lakh voters will exercise today to choose their representative of their constituencies.
The Election Commission of India has arranged nearly 1100 police personnel including home guards. A company of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has also been set up to conduct a peaceful and fair election as Ashwani Kumar, Director General of Police informed to media on Tuesday.
“The use of mobile phone and wireless services have been granted by the election commission for political parties in all the three constituencies”, said DGP Kumar. “A total of 230 wireless stations have been set up to provide a better communication link by the administration” added Ashwani.
Chief Electoral Officer Manisha Nanda informed the media that political parties have arrived in all booths of three constituencies and forty three helipads have been set up to meet any sort of emergency can be occurred of accidental snowfall.
All the three jumbo parties include Congress, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) along with Lok Jan Shakti Party have granted election tickets to 11 candidates while one candidate is independent in the fray.
