Lucknow, Feb 3 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh's visit to Azamgarh on Wednesday has kicked off a controversy, as the Ulema Council has called the visit an eyewash.
Singh is adamant that he is visiting the area on a fact-finding mission. But the Ulema Council of clerics has announced that Singh would not be allowed to meet the families of those accused in terror attacks.
Doubting the Congress leader's intent, the Ulema Council has declared that it would do its best to stop Singh.
Uttar Pradesh's anti-terror squad (ATS) had on Monday evening taken into custody Shehzad Ahmad alias Pappu, a key accused in the September 2008 Delhi serial blasts and the Batla House encounter.
This is the third arrest that has been made from the area.
The Ulema Council was formed just before the Lok Sabha elections last year in the backdrop of the Batla House encounter. (ANI)
